Quanta - Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 April 2026
1. About this policy and who we are
Quanta helps people in the Australian construction trade assess whether a business is sound and safe to deal with before they sign or extend credit. We are based in Sydney. In this policy, "Quanta", "we", "us" and "our" refer to Quanta and the entity that operates it. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. The information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, phone number, email, company name, and anything you include when you contact us, sign up, or contribute data.
- Business and registry information: details about businesses and the people connected to them, such as directors and officeholders, drawn from public registers and records. Some of this is personal information about individuals.
- Member-contributed information: where members share their own experience of how a business has paid them, such as whether invoices were paid on time, late, or not at all.
- Usage information: how you use our website and service, collected through your device and standard web technologies.
3. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you, from publicly available sources and registers (including the Australian Business Register), and from members who contribute their own payment experience to the network.
4. Why we use it
We use information to produce risk verdicts and reports; to provide, run and improve the service; to verify the identity of businesses and the people connected to them; to respond to your enquiries and provide support; and to meet our legal obligations.
5. When we disclose it
We disclose information to members who run checks through Quanta, and to service providers who help us operate (such as hosting and infrastructure providers) under confidentiality arrangements. We do not sell your personal information to advertisers. We may disclose information where the law requires or permits it.
6. Personal information about directors and other individuals
Some business information we hold is personal information about individuals, such as company directors. We handle it in accordance with the APPs. If information about you appears in a Quanta check, you have the access and correction rights set out in sections 9 and 10.
7. Keeping information secure
We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls and secure infrastructure.
8. How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy or as the law requires, then take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
9. Accessing your personal information
You can ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy. We will respond within a reasonable period and ordinarily within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. There is no charge to make a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost for giving access in some cases.
10. Correcting or disputing information about your business
If you believe information shown in a Quanta check is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, you can ask us to correct it. The process is:
(a) Lodging a request: contact us using the details in section 14 with the business name and ABN, the specific information you say is wrong, and any supporting evidence (for example a registry extract or payment record).
(b) Acknowledgement: we will acknowledge your request within 5 business days.
(c) Review: we will investigate and respond within 30 days, consistent with APP 13. While we review, we may flag the relevant information as "under review" so members see it is disputed.
(d) Outcome: if we agree the information is wrong, we will correct it and, where practical, notify anyone we have disclosed it to. If we do not agree, we will explain why in writing and, if you ask, attach a statement noting that you dispute the information.
(e) Escalation: if you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
We do not charge to make or process a correction request.
11. Overseas disclosure
Some service providers may store data outside Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with this policy and the APPs.
12. Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first using section 14 and we will work to resolve it. If you remain unsatisfied, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the "last updated" date at the top.
